OVERVIEW
The Trade Union Group of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology operates under the Trade Union of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade has been formed and developed alongside the growth of the University. Under the leadership of the Party Committee, the Vietnam Trade and Industry Union, and the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labour, the Faculty Trade Union Group has closely coordinated with the university administration and other organizations to maintain stability and promote its development. The Group actively contributes to fulfilling the University’s political mission of education and research in engineering, technology, and economics, thereby providing high-quality human resources for the country’s industrialization, modernization, and development.
At present, the Faculty Trade Union Group has 22 members, including 4 females and 18 males. The educational, professional, and political qualifications of its members are as follows:
- Bachelor’s degree holders: 2/22
- Master’s degree holders: 15/22
- PhD candidates: 2/22
- Doctoral degree holders: 2/22
- Associate Professors: 3/22
- Intermediate-level Political Theory certification: 3/22
Along with the development of the University, the Faculty Trade Union Group has coordinated with the University Trade Union and effectively carried out the following activities:
- Disseminating the Party’s guidelines and policies; the State’s laws and regulations, and the Charter of the Trade Union organization.
- Participating in drafting and providing feedback on the University’s regulations and operational policies; inspecting and supervising the implementation of policies, laws, and regulations; detecting and combating negative practices and corruption; and participating in the resolution of labor disputes in accordance with legal provisions.
- Representing and protecting the lawful and legitimate rights and interests of faculty members and employees of the University.
- Strengthen trade union membership and develop strong local trade unions. Train and encourage outstanding union members to the Party organization.
Some annual activities organized by the Faculty Trade Union Group include:
- Hosting gatherings for female staff on the occasion of International Women’s Day and Vietnamese Women’s Day as well as organizing cooking and home-making contests.
- Giving gifts to children of faculty members and staff on the Mid-Autumn Festival and International Children’s Day (June 1).
- Encouraging participation in sports events and cultural/artistic performances organized by the University, the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labour, and the education sector.
- Organizing annual domestic and international study tours and excursions to provide union members with opportunities for rest and relaxation after intensive working periods.
- Visiting, encouraging, and supporting members facing difficult circumstances.
